Early 2025, designer Svea Tisell set up KryssA studio that uses an extensive approach from one material and experimental processes. From lengths of rope that sometimes measures thousands of meters, she creates unique furniture objects in which traditional traditions and contemporary design come together.
Kryss is named after a sailing boat that belonged to the great -grandfather of Tisell, intertwined notions of tradition, function and innovation. The artist is currently aimed at making furniture objects using a technique called Multiweave, developed by Estse textile artist and teacher Kadi Pajupuu. With recovered climbing ropes or surplus from the production of shoelaces, Tisell absorbs a rigid framework of Warp supports that leads impact wires – or sturdy rope.
The schedule, consisting of pipes for turning the material, offers structure and support during the weaving process, but is removed as soon as the piece is completed, so that it can be reused. Whether it is a chair or a small table, the knotted rope then adapts to weight and movement and subtly adapts to use over time.
Tisell is fascinated for Kryss by the possibilities of translating textiles into three -dimensional forms that act on each other and offer different functions. She tells Colossal that the project focuses on the fundamental characteristics of the material, “where textile is the main character, retain soft and receiving qualities”, while he also supports himself independently.
