CHICAGO – There’s good and bad news to report about the weeklong robberies that have seen necklaces snatched from victims, mostly in the Loop and along the lakeshore.
The bad news is that another woman was killed in the Clybourn Corridor on Saturday morning. She was near Sheffield and Kingsbury when a man ripped a chain from her neck and ran away. As many of the previous victims reported, he jumped on an electric or motorized bicycle that he shared with an accomplice.
The good news? A Chicago police sergeant saw two men crossing the Cortland Street bridge on an electric bicycle shortly after the robbery. One of the men, believed to be the one who took the woman’s necklace, jumped bail and tried to run away when police entered. His escape failed and police took him into custody after discovering the woman’s necklace in his possession, according to preliminary information.
The other suspect, a Hispanic man in his 20s with neck tattoos, apparently escaped. It is believed he was a resident of the 1310 North Elston migrant shelter.

Two women were targeted in similar robberies on Friday, one in the Loop and the other across the river in West Town.
A spate of similar crimes have been reported this week in the Loop, Streeterville and along the lakefront.
The crimes are similar to incidents reported downtown during Lollapalooza and the ARC Music Festival in the West Loop a few weeks ago.
Two migrants were charged in connection with Lollapalooza incidents. Two other migrants were charged in the ARC Music Festival cases.
