A new Bluesky app is in the making of a popular developer of iOS applications. Tap botsThe company behind the popular Mastodon customer, born from his earlier efforts with Tweetbot (RIP), prepares a new app to the name Phoenix, designed for extinguishing social network of more than 32 million users.
In a message about Bluesky, the company shared its website that teased the new app, which is expected to be launched later this summer.
On his site, Tapbots clarified that his work on a Bluesky customer does not mean that it abandons his efforts in the Fediverse, also known as the Open Social Web. However, the development of ivory will temporarily delay as the new efforts are underway.
Ivory, which Launched in 2023, Brought Back Tweetbot’s Look and Feel and Several of its features to sacrifice An alternative to Mastodon’s Official Social app, An Open Source, Decentralized alternative to larger platforms like X. App, the ProTOLDEOG, PROTWERDERWERING Host of Federated Social Apps Including Not Only Mastodon, But also PeerTube, Pixelfed, Meta’s Threads, Flipboard and others.
Bluesky is now built on another protocol, the AT protocol (or atproto for short).
Since the acquisition of Twitter by Elon Musk and his transformation in X, many former Twitter users have transferred to other networks, including Mastodon and Bluesky. For an Indie operation such as tapbots, it meant that the customer base was divided between two services, making it harder to generate income with only one app.
“… For us to continue to thrive as a company, we have to support both,” shared tapbots on her website. “Unfortunately we can’t just survive about Mastodon.”
The company also explains that it decided to launch a special app for Bluesky users instead of combining the two networks in one app, because this would offer users a better experience. Those who want to maintain a presence on both social networks can benefit from a planned cross-posting function, it added.
Unfortunately for Mastodon users, Ivory work will have to delay if the team works to launch Phoenix.
“It would be a lie if we said that ivory would be in full development while we try to use Phoenix,” the website explains. “However, we did not want to start with Phoenix Development until after we had released Ivory V2.3. As soon as Phoenix is out, the development will take place simultaneously and both apps will get all the huge improvements that we have planned in the apps. “
News about the launch of Phoenix was reported for the first time by Macstories.
Although the company has not announced the money strategy of Phoenix, it will probably be a subscription model that is comparable to Ivory-a free app with in-app purchases for access to premium functions. Currently, $ 1.99 per month or $ 14.99 per year.
Phoenix will start a limited public Alpha phase prior to its launch in the summer of 2025.
