A Texas woman allegedly shot her ex-husband 18 times after luring him out with a fake pizza delivery man, authorities said.
Marquita Marie Rice, 31, reportedly opened fire on her ex-husband outside his Dallas home before driving away. WNCN reportedciting the Dallas Police Department.
Miraculously, her ex-husband, who has not yet been identified, survived his injuries after being taken to a hospital in critical condition following the shooting on March 1 around 4pm local time.
Dramatic security video shows Rice, dressed in black, waiting behind a wall near the garage for her ex to come out of his house after a pizza was delivered to the home.
When her ex-husband opened the door, Rice allegedly shot him multiple times before walking away and then returning to fire more shots.
The victim did not order the pizza from his home, leading detectives to believe it was a premeditated shooting.
Rice was arrested on May 26 in Wake County, North Carolina, more than 1,000 miles away from the shooting scene, although police did not document the arrest until June 10. as reported by FOX4 News.
Dallas police followed her through the taillights of her Chevy Trax, which she used to flee the scene.
“The taillights make a big difference in my case,” Detective Michael Bui told FOX 4, describing how Rice allegedly tried to cover her tracks in the weeks after the shooting.
She drove “all the way from Georgia to Dallas and back… And from Savannah, from Raleigh to Georgia to Dallas,” Bui said.
Rice was detained in the town of Wake Forest, just north of Raleigh, N.C., by local police and the U.S. Marshals Service, according to Dallas police.
The next day, May 27, she made her first court appearance in Wake County, where she declined extradition to Texas.
Rice was held on a $1 million bond and will appear in court again on June 25.
