The 2025 Tesla Model Y ‘Juniper’ facelift leaked, and it doesn’t just look like a Model 3

The current one Tesla Model Y looks like a blown-up Model 3 from before the update, but spy photos of the facelifted model reveal a sharper look – if it adopts design cues seen on rival brands.

Rather than simply mirroring the recently launched Highland update to the Model 3, the updated Model Y – also called Juniper – goes in a different direction.

In a new set of images of a largely undisguised example shared via social media, we can see that the mid-size electric SUV looks more aggressive than before.

There’s a full-width light bar, giving the updated Model Y’s face a look more Cybertruck than Model 3.

Tesla is also following a string of brands, including Audi and BMW, in adopting a split-level lighting setup.

Likewise, at the rear there’s a full-width light bar, another increasingly common design element, plus a sportier rear bumper.

A new wheel design is also visible.

What’s not visible is the interior, although the updated Model Y could follow its sedan sibling by ditching the turn signal lever in favor of steering wheel-mounted buttons, and gaining ventilation from the front seats.

The Model 3 update also received a screen for rear seat passengers.

Only one interior photo has been leaked so far, showing what appears to be perforated leather or faux leather on the seats, suede-look trim on the door and a thin strip of ambient lighting.

It is unclear what mechanical changes will be made, but the updated Model 3 received a revised suspension, including new springs and dampers, plus new subframe mounting points designed to ensure a more comfortable ride.

Model Y sales fell 26.1 percent in Australia in 2024, although it was still the best-selling EV on the market with 21,253 units delivered.

It’s possible that many potential Model Y buyers will stick with the updated model, although Model 3 sales fell 1.5 percent despite the arrival of the Highland update.
