From coast to coast, hundreds of thousands of demonstrators in the United States flooded to commemorate May day, also known as International Workers Day, observed annually on the first of the month around the world. This year’s labor rallies, which follow last month’s hands! Demonstrations were strongly focused on immigration, health care, trans-rights, federal employees, education and the USraeli bombing of Gaza, supported by the US, in a national show of art filled against the second Trump administration.
In New York City, demonstrators came together in the Union Square and Foley Square in Manhattan for rallies organized by the People’s Forum and the American Civil Liberties Union, respectively. The demonstrations initially drawn attention to the rights of employees, especially with the background of massive dismissal at cultural institutions throughout the country. But they were also filled to the edge with homemade plates, colorful banners and extensive costumes that punished Trump’s highly investigated power expansion.
