The brutalist, a story about the pursuit of the American dream, is one of the most important contenders in this year’s race for the Oscars. Directed by Brady Corbet, the film earned nominations in ten categories, including best picture, best director, actor in a leading role and actress in a supporting role. The film has already won three Golden Globes and five prizes at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, including The Silver Lion.
The film tells the story of a Hungarian-Jewish architect László Tóth (Adrien Brody), who, after survival of the Holocaust, emigrates to the United States. Thanks to the wealthy industrial Harrison Lee van Buren (Guy Pearce), László is starting to work on a monumental building that the future can guarantee for him and his wife, Erzsébet (Felicity Jones).
The brutalist is a real epic story with no less than three hours and 35 minutes it even contains a 15-minute break. Despite some controversies with regard to AI use, the film by Corbet is considered one of the most visionary films of this year.
