The FBI Destroys the Hub of Prostitution and Gruesome Human Trafficking in LA's Infamous Figueroa Corridor

SWAT agents with guns drawn swarmed to the grimy Stadium Inn and Spa in LA’s infamous Figueroa Corridor before dawn Wednesday, looking for accused brothel king Ahir Mukeshkumar.

“Come out with your hands up,” an LAPD officer shouted over his bullhorn as the hulking man in a T-shirt and shorts walked out of the motel.

Accused of renting rooms where men pay for sex with children as young as 14, prosecutors say Mukeshkumar is the motel’s manager, and that 90% of the rooms he rented were for prostitution. He was allowed to keep half of the proceeds.

Mukeshkumar’s arrest was part of a massive federal crackdown on LA’s sex trafficking industry, which targeted pimps and human traffickers in an effort to thwart the illegal sex industry that has besieged Figueroa Corridor.

Six members and associates of the infamous LA Hoover Gang – and Mukeshkumar – were among 10 suspects targeted in a federal indictment charging them with a range of crimes, including child sex trafficking.

By 5 a.m., six suspects, including the accused brothel owner, had been arrested in a dozen simultaneous raids in LA and Orange County.

Called Operation Broken Blade, prosecutors say the bust is the first gang case primarily focused on human trafficking in the Figueroa Corridor, a century-old L.A. prostitution center known to locals as the Blade.

Agents working at the Blade say the Hoover ring targets runaways and foster children, forcing them into prostitution through violence, threats and branding with gang tattoos.

Essayli said they are the worst out there.

“This is a blight on Los Angeles, and especially on the Figueroa Corridor, and historically not enough has been done to arrest these criminal actors and rescue these young women,” Essayli said.

According to the superseding indictment unsealed Wednesday, the Hoovers largely controlled sex trafficking and prostitution in the Figueroa Corridor from 2021 to the present, and acted as pimps to promote and manage the sex trade.

The indictment lists 51 victims affected by these alleged crimes.

Prosecutors say the Hoovers worked together to recruit new victims through social media or in person, focusing on vulnerable girls and young women with financial or emotional problems or who had run away from home or were in foster care.

The Hoover pimps committed crimes against the girls, including biting off part of one girl’s cheek down to the cartilage, hitting another girl with a Rolex watch on the pimp’s hand, forcing another to do sex work on the day of an invasive abortion procedure, and throwing another out of a car and stealing the vehicle, with children in the backseat.

Essayli said the FBI and LAPD are alerting the fearsome gang.
