It seems that Samsung is preparing a surprise for us in the form of a new smart ring in early 2025.
We previously reported in early November that the Galaxy Ring 2 may arrive earlier, but this time we know a more precise date.
As the brand gears up for the highly anticipated Galaxy Unpacked event, which will reportedly take place on January 22, this flagship event is expected to unveil not only the Galaxy S25 series but also the second generation of Samsung’s smart ring.
Samsung’s first-generation Galaxy Ring was unveiled in multiple phases, with truly surprising teasers at the launch of the Galaxy S24 series in January 2024, a showcase at MWC in February, followed by a full launch in July.
In contrast, the Galaxy Ring 2 could simply launch earlier this year instead of arriving in the summer, creating a 12-month refresh cycle. Samsung may also launch its first XR headset at the Unpacked event.
This strategic move reflects Samsung’s intention to position the Ring 2 as a direct competitor to Oura, which has sold more than 2.5 million smart rings since its founding in 2013. The company recently launched the Oura Ring 4.

Previously, well-known leaker Max Jambor reported that the original Galaxy Ring will have two additional sizes: size 14 (SM-Q514) with a weight of 3.2 g and an inner diameter of 23 mm, plus size 15 (SM-Q515) with a weight of 3.2 g and a size of 23.8 mm. mm inner diameter.
However, DigiTimes now reports that these additional sizes will actually be available on the Galaxy Ring 2, and not on the original Galaxy Ring. This would bring the total to 11, although this is still not the size range offered by competitor Oura Ring 4.
Major upgrades could also include more accurate health data sensors, improved AI-powered features, and an expected battery life of more than seven days.
Despite these improvements, there is no confirmation as to whether NFC support will be included in this iteration.
