CHICAGO – Police’s decision to release CTA surveillance photos of five people suspected of robbing a woman on the Red Line continues to bear fruit, as prosecutors on Monday charged a third person with participating in the crime.
Chicago police arrested 19-year-old Marvell Colone at his family’s Bronzeville home Sunday afternoon after his mother called police to report he was wanted for participating in the robbery, according to a CPD report.
Police say five people, Colone, a 14-year-old boy, a 16-year-old boy and two people who remain at large, robbed a 19-year-old woman on the 69th Street Red Line platform around 9:38 a.m. hours on September 28.
Prosecutors said one of the juveniles pointed a gun at the woman while Colone and the others demanded her belongings. Colone grabbed the woman’s phone from her hand, while others took her bookbag and wallet, according to the charges.
Mass Transit investigators released CTA surveillance images of the suspects two days later. The youths were charged on October 10 and 12.
Judge Deidre Dyer granted the state’s detention request, leaving Colone in jail pending trial. He is charged with one count of armed robbery.
