As expected, the Xiaomi 15 phone series has been officially unveiled and while the wait continues for the exciting Ultra model, the Chinese company has delivered one of the flashiest editions I’ve come across.
And then I haven’t even mentioned the Rock Silver version of the Xiaomi 15 Pro, which has a trendy 3D water ripple effect. I’m also not surprised by the Xiaomi 15 Custom Edition, which is available in no fewer than 20 different colors.
It’s the Xiaomi 15 Diamond Edition that really caught my attention. Prepare yourself, because this thing is crazy and no, it’s not some super early April Fool’s Day joke.
The Diamond Edition of the Xiaomi 15 is unlike any other phone I’ve seen in over a dozen years of writing about mobile technology.

Instead of a glass tailgate, it has crocodile leather in three different colors: Elephant Gray, Orange and Glacier White. Of course I like the orange one, but why is there an elephant shade if it’s crocodile skin?
And that’s just the beginning…

The camera module looks like it’s been through the hair and make-up department of Strictly Come Dancing with its bedazzled, sparkly style.
The icing on the cake is a real diamond with 57 facets, embedded on the side, next to an engraving of the words ‘Limited Edition’.
It’s crazy and I love it and hate it at the same time. I couldn’t bring myself to take it out of my pocket at the pub with my friends, or anywhere else, but part of me wants it for fun.
Xiaomi isn’t even asking that much for it: CNY 6,000, which converts to about £650/$840.
Sadly, my contradictory dream of a bling phone is unlikely to come true as this limited edition is only available in China and I’m willing to bet it won’t appear anywhere else.
