Three gunmen robbed a 30-year-old man as he walked away from a luxury boutique on the Magnificent Mile on Friday afternoon, confronting him in brazen daylight on one of the area’s busiest street corners.
The victim had just left the Louis Vuitton store, 919 North Michigan Avenue, and was walking along the 100 block of East Oak Street when a gray Honda SUV with four occupants pulled up next to him at 2:08 p.m., according to a Chicago police report.
Three men got out of the SUV, approached the man and demanded his property while pointing guns at him, a police spokesman said. The victim complied and the robbers fled in the SUV, which was last seen heading east on East Lake Shore Drive.
Police have not publicly linked the incident to any other crimes, but the robbery appeared to be similar to an armed robbery reported in Lincoln Park on Thursday morning. In that case, a 21-year-old woman was walking along the 2300 block of North Clark Street when two or three armed men confronted her around 4:35 a.m., police said. The men pushed her against a wall, took her valuables, then ran back to their car and ran away.
No arrests have been announced in connection with either crime.

CWBChicago was founded in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had become discouraged by the inaccurate information presented during local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has since expanded to Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown and other North Side areas. But our mission remains unchanged: to provide original public safety reporting with better context and more detail than mainstream media. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
