Teahupo’o, a village on the southeastern coast of Tahiti, features a shallow and steep coral reef system that creates a unique surf break, resulting in some of the largest waves on earth. These powerful, rolling waves attract surfers from all over the world, including photographers Tim McKenna.
From a young age, McKenna surfed the west coast of France and later Australia. He is deeply fascinated by the power of the ocean and its constant mood swings, from serene ripples to towering waves. The photographer began documenting waves as he made their heaving movements and eventually settled in Teahupo’o, where he has lived for more than twenty years.
