A parking attendant at the UBS Arena on Long Island was busted for allegedly conning hockey fans and concertgoers into paying him personally — without ever turning over nearly $5,000 he pocketed to his employer, prosecutors said.
Tremayne Brown, 26, of Queens, allegedly tricked customers into sending their parking payments to his own Venmo account 125 times, dating back to April 17 — robbing the arena of the $4,997 he received, according to a complaint filed with the Nassau County Criminal. Court.
His plot was foiled on Jan. 12 when his shift leader overheard him asking for payment from a patron on his Venmo account, set up under the username “MartinGrey00,” according to the complaint.
The supervisor spoke to the patron, who claimed Brown told her to deposit the $30 into the Venmo account to “save on fees,” according to the court doc.
The history of Brown’s Venmo account revealed that it was far from the first time he had allegedly carried out the same scheme — and that he never transferred the money to the arena’s coffers.
He would also never have revealed his shady dealings in the arena’s business records.
Brown was arrested Jan. 14 and charged with grand larceny in the third degree and falsifying business records in the first degree, the complaint said.
He has pleaded not guilty, court records show.
During his arraignment before Judge Michele Johnson a day later, he was released and placed under the supervision of a prosecutor, the district attorney’s office said.
His next appearance is scheduled for February 21.
