The University of Arkansas School of Art offers tuition-free graduate programs in Art education, Art history, Graphic designAnd Studio art. Applications for the 2025-2026 academic year are now open through January 15, 2025. Students accepted into a School of Art graduate program will also have access to funding through assistantships, fellowships, and research and travel grants.
Housed in Fulbright College of Arts and Sciencesthe School of Art invites everyone to register for an upcoming one virtual information session on Tuesday, December 17 at 4:00 PM (CST). Prospective graduate students will learn about the comprehensive financial support and educational experience for each graduate program.

Thanks to a generous gift from the Walton Family Charitable Support Foundation in 2017, the school was able to expand its graduate program offerings and provide this unprecedented level of financial support.
In the fall of 2022, the School of Art launched the accredited master’s programs Master of Arts in Art Education and Master of Design in Communication Design.
The two year old MA in Art Education program is intended for students who want to expand and deepen their knowledge of theory and practice in art education. It trains art educators to be culturally responsive and use interdisciplinary, collaborative teaching and research to address current and future challenges in art education.
Also two years, the MDes graduate program focuses on communication and participatory design, preparing students to inspire and generate equitable and sustainable solutions for their communities and beyond through design.

When Art Education and Graphic Design welcomed their first class of students, the Art History program launched them Master of Art degree in collaboration with Crystal Bridges Museum of American Artspecialized in the study of the arts of America. Students experience an innovative program that reimagines what art history can be through a theme-based curriculum, hands-on learning with objects, unique travel opportunities, and internship experiences designed to propel students toward diverse art careers.
These new graduate programs strengthen the interdisciplinary vision for the School of Art and build on its established values Master of Fine Arts in the Studio Art program. The three-year, in-residence MFA program is designed to support a variety of approaches to art making, coupled with rigorous theoretical inquiry, research and social awareness.
Applications for all graduate programs are scheduled for January 15, 2025.
