Our opinion
Until dawn is a solid game adjustment and the proof that there is interest and potential in this market. Although it follows his own story, the heart of the game is there, and fans of the original story will find many elements inside.

In 2015 I remember that I sat down with a group of my friends to play a new horror game that is called dawn. That night we finally played it for Hours. Since then it has been something I have played countless times. It has a special place in my heart, like for many fans. So how does the film adjustment from 2025 hold Sony Pictures?
The answer is: it manages in his own way.
Following a group of teenagers (Ella Rubin, Ji-Young Yoo, Belmont Cameli, Michael Cimino and Odessa A’zion) on a road trip looking for Clover’s (Rubin) Missed sister, Mel (Mai Mitchell). Although the set -up is nothing like the snow -covered background of the game, it still has its own creepiness, especially with how the new location is depicted.
As can be seen in the trailer, our only tangible connection to the game is the clerk of the gas station, played by Peter Stormare. Although there is no idea that he is his role of Dr. Hill repeats, is the well -known voice that runs the psychiatric sessions in the game a welcome addition.
Just like the game, fear is a leading motivator in the film: what takes us away and what pushes us ahead. It forces the group to confront all this. In a refreshing turn of most teenage sufferers, they actually learn from their mistakes at night, and they use that for their next attempts. We see no one more than once irrational decisions, which I think is one of the smart ways in which this film fits into the game. We cannot have a butterfly effect message here, but we can still feel the consequences.
One of the things that the film does well is to make your own video game world. All elements are there and I even noticed that I wanted to play a game version of the movie while watching. You have several samples, which means several ways to die and make several new decisions.
I even noticed that I wanted to play a game version of the movie more than once
As far as the group is concerned, their dynamics was solid, but we just didn’t get enough of ourselves to really feel rooted in their history and their conflicts. Unlike the game, we don’t really get flashbacks to what happened before. They are an integral part of this story, and their absence was certainly felt. The cast, however, still worked well together, and they were all strong enough in themselves not to make comparisons with the original game marks.
However, there are many Easter eggs in the film, one of which one was heard for breath. It is that kind of callbacks and homages that complete the story and the world, and open the audience for not only people who have played the game, but people who just love the genre.
The hourglass, a central piece on the game, but not really in the story itself, is made in this film in his own character. Seeing his physical presence every time the group is reset is a kind of finite feeling of their own morality: although they can continue to reset, their time is not unlimited and their scars will continue to exist. It is a smart addition to this adjustment and how they deal well with the multiple directions of the game.

Rubin and Ciminio keep the story on their shoulders, and although it is sometimes a bit shaky, it manages to maintain itself through new and old twists. However, this is one of the few films where I wanted them to give us a longer duration.

We had to learn more about the characters and their motivations and relationships, those members because we did not have the flashbacks we needed. The last act also felt a bit rushed, and there was so much in it that even only twenty minutes could have benefited.
Do you have to view the adjustment until dawn?
Until dawn makes its own name in the genre and it has never been completely forgotten of its origin. It’s fun, it’s smart, and it’s bloody.
But it is far from perfect, especially when it comes to the background stories of the characters and the hurried third act. Nevertheless, as long as you expect something is just Inspired by The source material, you will enjoy it. Moreover, there are a few really downright frightening moments there.
I hope this brings more people to discover the 2015 game, and, if they have just played it, to pick up a controller and immerse themselves in a snowy mountains. Who knows, there may be one to sunrise 2 on the horizon.
Until the dawn is now out in cinemas. You can buy tickets from CineWorld, Odeon and Vue in the UK, and AMC theaters, Fandango and the dawn website in the US.
