Video has surfaced from a man who shoots when chasing police officers in Chicago after he crashed his car in Hammond, Indiana this week. The police came back, said officials, and the man then died.
It all started around 5:49 PM when CPD received a “person with a gun” call in which someone was involved for a worse battery in the 13400 block of South Baltimore, according to a police statement.
Commenting officers saw a man entering a vehicle and leaving the stage. They followed him until he crashed near Dearborn and Gostlin in Hammond, Indiana.
A video posted online by Subx News, the man, identified as the 50-year-old Joseph Navarro, who is located next to the road, apparently coverage behind a detached bumper. Someone in the video says that Navarro’s car had been reversed.
While the video continues, Navarro raises a gun in his hand and opens fire. More gunshots follow, apparently fired by the police. The following video shows Navarro who fires his weapon, but it is in no way graphic:
Navarro, who was given shot wounds, was declared dead in St. Catherine Hospital. Two officers were taken to a hospital for observation, but no other physical injuries were reported.
Copa, the civilian office of police accounting, investigates the use of violence. Both officers are placed on administrative tasks for at least 30 days per CPD policy.
