Volvo’s electric sedan to travel 700 km on load

Volvo has revealed more details about the upcoming ES90 Electric sedan just a week out of his revelation, with the battery-driven model with anxiety-knocking figures.

The Volvo ES90, as a result of debut on March 5, has a claimed driving range of 700 km on the WLTP Laboratory Test cycle, much more than the 570 km figure of the EX90 Electric SUV flagship ship.

It is tipped to be a competitor of the BMW i5 and Mercedes-Benz Eqe-Die respectively up to 627 km and 626 km offer due to the proximity of the gasoline-driven S90’s approach in size to the 5-series and E-class.

According to Volvo, the ES90 will be supported by an 800-Volt architecture.

This is despite the fact that the ES90 is based on the same Spa2 platform as the EX90, with an architecture of 400 volts.

Higher charging percentages are a clear advantage of the raised voltage, whereby Volvo claims that the ES90 DC can be loaded to 350 kW, so that the battery can win 300 km of reach in just 10 minutes.

Volvo also claims ES90s that are equipped with a 106kWh battery (net capacity) can be charged from 10 to 80 percent load in 20 minutes, based on the loading percentage of 350 kW.

For the context, the chemical chemical battery of the EX90 111KWh (gross capacity) lithium-ion with nickel-Manganese-cobalt (NMC) can be charged to 250 kW.

Volvo claims that the 800-volt architecture has resulted in unknown weight savings for the ES90 compared to its existing EVs, because it can use lighter electric motors and other components.

The ES90 is also an important model for Volvo’s sustainability goals, where Volvo reports 29 percent of all aluminum and 18 percent of all steel used in the electric sedan is recycled, while it also contains 16 percent recycled polymers and biobased materials.

In addition, the ES90 is sold with a “battery fissure”, a requirement in Europe from the beginning of 2027. The passport follows raw materials such as lithium, cobalt, nickel and graphite, and details of the CO2 Footprint of the battery of an EV.

Earlier leaked documentation in China revealed that the ES90 will measure 4990 mm long, 1945 mm wide and 1547 mm long on a 3102 mm wheelbase.

The ES90 is said to be offered in either one-engine rear-wheel drive or dual engine four-wheel drive configurations.

It will participate in a growing line -up from Volvo EVs, including the coming EX60 (an electric counterpart of the XC60), as well as two models on the newer Spa3 platform.

The current global EV-range from Volvo includes the EX30, the EX40 (previously known as the XC40 charger), the EX90 and the only China EM90 People Mover.

Despite the announcement of in March 2021 that EVs would only sell worldwide by 2030, Volvo declined this goal to 90-100 percent electrified vehicle sales by 2030 with the new figure including plug-in hybrids (PHEVs).
