Tom Leighton (earlier) is known for emphasizing the photosynthesis process of plants by exchanging their characteristic greens for alien fluorescent colors. Leighton, often focused on the nightlife of copies found around his house in Cornwall, photographs Leighton in a way that changes ordinary species to extraordinary subjects.
His latest series, SpinesExpands this process. The macro images concentrate on the fine fibers hull stems and flowers. Water droplets cling to the surfaces as if the plants had just emerged from a heavy downpour. The glittering botanicals catch the surrounding light, while the thick dew drops add a shiny, shut view of the life forms that stay underneath.
