We always knew that Joe Biden would pardon his troubled son Hunter, no matter how many times he promised he wouldn’t.
So it’s fitting that one of this mendacious president’s last acts before leaving office was to break a new promise to the American people.
For example, the president issued a White House statement on Sunday evening declaring that he had just signed a “full and unconditional pardon” for 54-year-old Robert Hunter Biden.
The pardon that Joe vowed never to grant comes just days before Hunter was set to be sentenced on a gun crime conviction in Delaware in June and tax fraud charges in California in September, to which he pleaded guilty on the first day of the trial.
Joe claims Hunter was “selectively and unfairly prosecuted. Clearly, Hunter was treated differently. . . only chosen because he is my son.
In a funny way, the president explained away all his lies to the American people by lying about his lies: “My entire career I have followed a simple principle: Just tell the American people the truth.”
Blatant reversal
Joe told reporters in June, after Hunter was convicted of gun crimes in Delaware, that he would absolutely not pardon his son.
“I said I would abide by the jury’s decision,” he said at the G7 summit in Italy. “I will. And I won’t forgive him.”
When a reporter asked, “Are you planning to commute your son’s sentence?”, Joe, 82, said, “No.”
With a truthful president that would be the end of it, but with the fabulous and plagiarized Pinocchio currently in that position, it meant little.
The same goes for the repeated assurances from the perennial know-nothing Karine Jean-Pierre from the White House podium that there would be no pardon.
No wonder Hunter looked so smug this weekend when he was photographed with his father and the rest of the Biden clan in Nantucket.
For a man facing two prison sentences, he chewed gum and acted like nothing in the world bothered him.
Hours after Joe and Hunter dined at a Nantucket restaurant appropriately named “The Brotherhood of Thieves,” The Washington Post on Saturday published excerpts from a document written by the first son’s lawyers making the emotional case for his pardon.
Because his father was the only person on Earth with the power to pardon Hunter, at least until his presidency ends on January 20, the 52-page article appears to have been written for an audience of one: the Oval Office man who is on holiday. with his family on Nantucket.
But why would Hunter and his lawyers feel the need to leak the heartbreaking document when he was there every day with his father, hanging out in private equity billionaire David Rubenstein’s borrowed mansion, browsing bookstores to buy anti-Israel books? book and watch the lighting of the Christmas tree in the city?
The document was clearly a carefully crafted excuse to help Joe fool the American people into believing that Hunter was a victim of political persecution who suffered under his father’s power and influence.
If you read the excerpts of his lawyers’ sad letter, titled “The Political Persecutions of Hunter Biden,” you would see echoes in Joe’s statement on Sunday night. You would see that they harbor great fears for the future of Hunter now that the feared Donald Trump takes power.
“Now that the election has been decided, the threat against Hunter is real,” the lawyers wrote.
“There is no question that Trump has said Hunter is on his enemies list. . . The prospect of Trump retaliating against the Special Counsel prosecutors if they fail to take a tougher stance against Hunter will undoubtedly put significant pressure on them.”
Hunter’s high-priced lead attorney, Abbe Lowell, described the opus in dramatic terms as “the complete and reprehensible history of the political persecution of Hunter Biden. . . a seven-year story, propelled by an unrelenting political desire to use a son to hurt his father.”
It is “a wild and terrifying story . . . a grim warning of what’s to come as some of the same Republicans who targeted Hunter prepare to resume power and have declared their intention to use the administration’s vast power to pursue their perceived enemies.
His thesis is laughable.
Hunter knowingly committed the crimes for which he was pardoned, and he did so in the arrogant belief that his father’s power made him untouchable.
How right he was.
And despite Lowell’s excuse that Hunter was “in the grip of a serious drug addiction,” Hunter was sober at the time he committed the tax fraud, according to his own timeline he presented in court.
Hunter’s father and lawyers have created a fictional story in the expectation that most people won’t know the whole story.
The truth is that Hunter’s legal team bullied the DOJ into not charging Hunter and did so by invoking Joe’s name.
They would have succeeded if IRS whistleblowers Gary Shapley and Joe Ziegler told Congress the truth about years of political obstruction of their investigation to favor Hunter and hide Joe’s involvement in the family influence schemes.
“We have not yet seen this ‘report,’ but Hunter Biden’s legal team has consistently gone to great lengths to attack us for doing our duty as professional law enforcement officers,” Shapley and Ziegler said Saturday.
Whistleblowers smoke
“No amount of lies or distortion can hide the simple truth that the Justice Department nearly acquitted the president’s son of multiple crimes.
“We did our duty, told the truth and followed the law. Anyone reading his lawyers’ apology now should remember that Mr. Biden has admitted his tax crimes in federal court, his lawyers are suing us over our legal whistleblower disclosures, and we are suing one of those lawyers for smearing us with false accusations. ”
The Bidens are right to say that the justice system has been “corrupted by political leaders in this country,” or as Joe puts it, “that raw politics has infected this process” – but not in the way they claim.
Hunter was given an unfair advantage due to his father’s power. He broke the laws with impunity and knew that no one would ever stop him from doing exactly what he wanted. Every time he made a mistake, his father and his minions at the FBI, DOJ, IRS, State Department, and CIA stepped in to get him out of trouble.
The corrupt investigation in Delaware was just the tip of the iceberg. Hunter didn’t even have to worry about legal fees and living expenses to support his lavish lifestyle. Dad’s donors always came over.
The person who has corrupted the justice system in this country is Joe Biden. He weaponized it against his political nemesis Donald Trump and Trump’s supporters. Trump is the victim of unjust persecution, not Hunter.
But the American people understand that, as they proved on Election Day when they elected Trump in a landslide despite the law violations.
That’s why the news of Hunter’s pardon is the least surprising news of the decade. No one believes a Biden’s word.
