CHICAGO – A jealous man lured his ex-girlfriend into his car and then shot her six times. He later told police he only stopped shooting because he had run out of bullets, prosecutors said Friday.

Greiver Urbina-Romero, 27, was restrained by Judge Torrie Corbin, who said he was “obsessed with” the 41-year-old woman and tried to avoid responsibility by throwing the murder weapon into Lake Michigan.

The shooting happened on Jan. 5 at 6:17 p.m. in the 1100 block of South Monitor.

Prosecutors said Urbina-Romero went to his ex’s location after seeing her having dinner with a male co-worker. Upon arrival, he demanded that the woman come down to talk to him. Officials said she agreed and got into his car to have the conversation.

When she did, Urbina-Romero allegedly pulled a gun. The woman fled in fear when Urbina-Romero shot her, causing 12 gunshot wounds with six bullets, according to the state’s detention request.

“When asked why he shot the victim six times, the defendant explained that he stopped because he was out of bullets,” the petition said.

The victim remained in hospital on Friday. Chicago police arrested Urbina-Romero this week on attempted murder charges.
