Max participates in the ranks of streaming platforms that block excessive password exchange.
As reported by the Wrap, JB Perrette, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery and President of Global Streaming and Games, announced the change on March 4, 2024. Those promises are now in the game in April 2025.
Perrette said on Morgan Stanley’s 2024 Technology, Media & Telecom Conference in San Francisco and said that limiting password distribution will be a “meaningful chance” for the company.
It is worth mentioning that Warner Bros. Discovery has been struggling financially for several years, but it has succeeded in limiting its losses to $ 55 million in the last quarter of 2023 (of a loss of $ 217 million in 2022). Moreover, the company has won 1.8 million direct-to-consumer subscribers.
Limiting password exchange is a new step to reduce the losses of the company. Warner Bros. Discovery follows in the footsteps of Netflix, which stopped sharing passwords by the end of 2023, and Hulu, where restrictions were introduced in 2024.

When does Max introduce rules for sharing passwords?
The new rules are now starting to roll out in the US, in the spring of 2025.
The changes will probably be gradually introduced in other countries where Max or HBO Max is active. This includes Latin -America and parts of Europe.
What are the new measures for sharing passwords on MAX?
Although we have no official details from Warner, if it is such a thing as Netflix, it will use a combination of monitoring IP addresses and address activities to see any accounts that are repeatedly used outside one household. It can also have an option for when users travel, such as a one -time access code.
An extra member is a position made for a person who does not live in the same household as a Max -Account holder. For an extra $ 7.99 per monthYou can add a friend or a family member to your account who is at least 18 years old and lives in the United States.
However, the option is only available if you subscribe to one of the three plans offered by MAX:
- Basic with advertisements – $ 9.99 per month or $ 99.99 per year
- Standard – $ 16.99 per month or $ 169.99 per year
- Premium – $ 20.99 per month or $ 209.99 per year.
The extra member function is not available if you buy a Max, Disney+ and Hulu bundle or connect to Max via a third-party service, such as a TV and internet provider, App Store or telephone career.
Once an add-on has been purchased, an extra member receives his own profile with a password and access to all Max functions. If a person already has an account on Max, his profile, view history, recommendations and settings transferred to the new extra member account.
Note that an extra member loses access to the service if the primary user deletes his account.
JB Perrette, CEO of Global Streaming and Games at Warner Bros. Discovery, explained (via Variety):
Extra add-on and profile transfer are two important maximum progress, designed to help viewers with a new way to enjoy our best-in-class content at an exceptional value and to offer a greater flexibility of subscribers when managing their accounts.
