Which FBT-exempt PHEV should you buy in 2025?

Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) Turnover is increasing, but there is not long left if you want to score considerable savings.

The exemption from the Electric Vehicle (EV) Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) for Novated Lease vehicles ends for PHEVs on April 1, 2025, which means that you have less than a month left to buy and receive a new PHEV if you want to take advantage.

To be eligible for FBT exemptions, a new plug-in hybrid must fall under the Luxury Car Tax (LCT) threshold of $ 91,387 for fuel-efficient vehicles-which means a vehicle that “does not exceed 7.0 l/100 km” on the combined cycle.

With those criteria we have the Carexper Team that is eligible, they would buy, regardless of the body style or the vehicle type.

Marton Pettendy: Ford Ranger PHEV

This is a no-brainer for me: the PHEV that I would buy is the Ford Ranger because I need a new Ute and it is only about $ 3000 more expensive than the XLT V6 that I would otherwise have bought.

Moreover, it blows the V6 away with 200 kW-plus and approximately-700 Nm outputs, while sipping less than 3.0 l/100 km, traveling nearly 50 km in EV mode and the possibility to nourish electrical appliances in the cabin and the drawer.

Yes, it is too late to get the PHEV FBT exemption and it is a bit more expensive than the BYD Shark 6 and GWM Cannon Alpha PHEVS, both of which offer the double EV range and longer guarantees.

But the plug-in ranger is based on the benchmark in the Ute class, drags a full ton more than the BYD, has the support of a huge national dealer network and is a well-known amount that will probably survive.

James Wong: Byd Sealion 6 essential

If you want to get into a good PHEV and do not want to spend more than $ 60,000, it is difficult to beat the new entry-Byd Sealion 6.

For $ 42,990 plus on-road costs or less than $ 47,000 drive-away, it is an absolute to steal Compared to rivals of comparable size, rival Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid EV that starts approximately $ 15,000 higher.

William Stopford: Cupra Forentor Vze

The PHEV sales can experience great growth lately, but this is largely fed by BYD, because we have lately lost a number of PHEV options, from the BMW 3 series to the Mercedes-Benz GLC and more recently the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Volvo S60, and and and more all from Peugeot’s PHEVS.

The obvious choice is the BYD Sealion 6 that the sales diagrams has raised and is doing even better than the last affordable Chinese PHEV SUV, the MG HS.

I still have to control a Sealion 6, but I was impressed by how flexible BYD’s powertrain technology was in Shark 6.

Then there is the Outlander PHEV, Mitsubishi’s groundbreaking plug-in, for which an update will soon be added with more strength and reach. It is more expensive than the BYD, but Mitsubishi is also an old hand with these PHEV activities, and the Japanese brand has a wider dealer network, longer warranty and offers a third row in the medium-sized SUV PHEV.

Both models have benefited from a real lack of competition. Where are the PHEV versions of the Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage and Toyota RAV4 offered abroad?

Both the Sealion 6 and Outlander PHEV are the obvious, sensible options, which explains why they were the most popular and second most popular PHEVs in Australia last year.

With the risk of being boring, I will throw my voice back to the Cupra forentor vze. It also receives an update with a longer distance inal and although it is smaller than the BYD and Mitsubishi, it is stylish and drives well.

It is the PHEV that I can imagine in my garage, but I can understand why the BYD and Mitsubishi occur much more often on our roads.

Jordan Mulach: Byd Sealion 6

Yes, it is a medium-sized SUV, but the Sealion 6 will mobilize the mass with plug-in hybrid technology in contrast to every car in front.

It is not only well priced, but also well equipped, and it does not hurt that it has an electric driving range that makes many people wonder why they would ever consider an EV.

Sean Lander: Ford Ranger XLT PHEV

I am torn apart between Shark 6 and the Ranger PHEV – On the one hand, the shark is everything you could ever need.

It is fast, comfortable and has a great EV range. But I want a Ute Ute donations and generally ute about the place.
So it’s the Ranger PHEV XLT for me.

Yes, it is a fair lick that is more expensive than the shark and yes, the battery is much smaller. But I know it will be reliable, it will take abuse and it still has the MOD-CONS that I like in a car. Moreover, I just love Rangers.

It would never be a replacement for my XR8 UTE, but it is about as close as we have received so far without getting into the American pick-ups.

Jack Quick: Byd Shark 6

I said this before, but the Shark 6 has brought about a revolution in how I observe and experience a Dual Cab-Ute.

The most important thing that stood out for me was how quiet the thing is when driving on EV Power. I am used to hearing and feeling the agricultural clatter of a diesel engine from under the hood, so it is a refreshing change.

This Ute also has 100 km claimed EV -range, at least according to smoothly NEDC tests, which is Goobsmacking.

Then there is the power. As Paul demonstrated in his video, Shark 6 is able to beat a Ranger Raptor in a drag race. It is probably a bit too much for the average Joe, but it is nice to bend this occasionally.

Finally, the Shark 6 has been luxuriously mentioned compared to other UTES for the attractive price of $ 57,990 for on-roads. There is not much that offers as much as this ute for the price tag.

Before you jump on my back in the reactions, the Shark 6 will certainly not be for everyone, but which car is ever?

Max Davies: Cupra Leon Vze

Given the comfort of the top class and the rich quality, I would have gone for the forentor Vze, but I think I would rather shrink and go for the plug-in Leon instead.

Have driven a hatchback daily in recent years and then spent countless hours behind the wheels of different SUVs thanks to thanks CarexperI know I prefer a smaller body style.

Then there is my recently realized sentiment that the Cupra Leon is one of the few new cars that I would really consider at the moment to indicate my money, although my first preference would be the fast VZX.

So I think it makes sense to combine the flexible – and still surprisingly fast – PHEV rowing line with the smaller and more agile body of the Leon. While you lose about 40 kW power compared to the VZX, the Leon Vze still has the same 400 Nm of torque and is probably much more economical.

Electric driving range is not terrible with a claimed 67 km. The only drawback is that you have to do it with just front -wheel drive, but there is a wide range of drive modes to use the power as you would like.

More than $ 60,000 before on-roads, however, is still fairly steep, and it might be better to wait for the VW group to exchange annoying climate sliding controllers for touch control.

Josh Nevett: Byd Shark 6

Let’s be real – which part of the Australian Ute buyers actually fill the drawer or do they drag a trailer? Of course, those people are probably better off to buy a ranger, but the BYD Shark 6 is my best choice for the rest.

It is different from any other ute that I have experienced. The plug-in hybrid powertrain offers performance that rivals can only dream of that the Shark 6 can do the 0-100 km/h sprint in 5.7 seconds, making it faster than a Ranger Raptor.

And when you have finished smoking a reckless trading, you enjoy driving up to 100 km alone with only electric electric. The interior is comfortable and well equipped, trimmed in materials that are usually reserved for top-dual-cabs.

The Shark 6 also offers V2L loading options, so that you can feed a wide range of devices and tools with your vehicle, battery charge.

Everything for the neat sum of $ 57,900 before on-road cost-the same as a Mid-Spec Ranger or Toyota Hilux. Sign up!
