CHICAGO – An 18-year-old woman is accused of committing two robberies on CTA trains in recent months after her high school principal identified her, according to a Chicago police report. Men who allegedly helped her commit the robberies have already been charged.
Celeste Pope is being held pending trial on two counts of theft after appearing before Judge Antara Nath.
The first robbery occurred on a Red Line train in Morse on July 19. Shortly after midnight, four people confronted a 22-year-old Evanston man and began punching, punching and robbing him of his phone, driver’s license and credit cards. , according to CPD.
Pope is accused of participating in that robbery and spraying the man with a chemical irritant, possibly mace.
Detectives released surveillance images of four suspects within days of the robbery. Earlier this month, prosecutors charged 25-year-old Martel Martin with participating in the robbery after an officer who previously arrested him recognized his photo, according to a police report.
Pope is also accused of robbing a 28-year-old woman along with 21-year-old Zander Glass on a Midway-bound train on the Orange Line on Oct. 30. Judge Nath’s detention petition stated that Pope and Glass robbed the woman of a purse and tore it apart. of her body as they rode the train.
Glass was also recently charged with the crime.
