Police are investigating after a 36-year-old woman was fatally shot in her West Rogers Park apartment Friday morning after her supervisor asked officers to check on her when she didn’t show up for work.

A responding officer arrived at the woman’s apartment in the 6900 block of North Bell Street and found the entry door blocked from the inside. After entering, the officer discovered the woman’s body on the other side of the door. Police said she suffered at least one gunshot wound to the abdomen and was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers also found a firearm in the home.

An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday to see if officials can learn more about the circumstances of her death.
