A woman who was accused of plastering anti -Semitic graffiti at various locations in Rogers Park received a three -year prison sentence on Thursday.
Mariana Lynch, 31, argued guilty of five counts of hate crimes in exchange for the punishment of judge Aleksandra Gillespie. The judge also ordered Lynch to perform 200 hours of community service.
Lynch was arrested at the end of December 2023 after witnesses had identified her as the person who brought various Rogers Park companies with a marker. A police report in Chicago said she used a permanent marker to place Nazi wastrikas and sentences “never again” and “BIT188” on a business store in the 7000 block of North Sheridan and a garden apartment in the 7600 block of North Greenview.
Officers who arrested Lynch said they recognized her from an internal CPD -Bulletin about similar disputes at a Jewish school in the neighborhood on December 27, 2023. In that case, Lynch reportedly attracted similar markings together with a website address, “Die KKK Raka and“ Schlom !!! [sic]”
Lynch told the agents that she was “personally persecuted by the” Jews “and” should get attention, “the report said.
She earned 558 days of credit for her punishment while she was in prison awaiting the trial. Combined with the automatic 50% sentence reduction of the state for good behavior, it does not have to serve time in prison.
