Social Network X said on Thursday that it pauses its encrypted DMS function because it works to make some improvements.
In a post on X, the engineering account of the company said Users have access to their existing encrypted messages, but they cannot send new ones. It did not mention when the function will be available again.
After Elon Musk Twitter had bought, he announced ambitious plans to revise direct messages and compete with privacy-oriented message service signal.
The company has rolled out the encrypted DMS function in 2023 for verified users, but it comes with various disadvantages. For example, the function is not available for group skats and only supports coding for text and links, not media. It also offers no protection against man-in-the-middle attacks and your encrypted conversations do not transfer to new devices.
