Xiaomi users are about to experience a free powerful software upgrade, although there is a small catch.
The tech giant just announced the launch of HyperOS 2, a major overhaul of its operating system packed with performance, connectivity and AI improvements.
HyperOS 2 will first debut with the Xiaomi 15 series and other upcoming devices, and starting in November, existing phones and tablets will also receive this free update.
The catch is that we don’t yet know when this firmware update will be rolled out globally, including the UK. For now, like the 15 series phones, it’s limited to China, but here’s what awaits us when it arrives.
HyperOS 2 is Xiaomi’s latest version of its Android 15-based operating system and introduces three core innovations – HyperCore, HyperConnect and HyperAI – to make Xiaomi’s ecosystem faster, more intelligent and seamlessly connected.
HyperCore technology includes a custom scheduler that reduces CPU idle time by 19%, improving responsiveness and multitasking. Additionally, Dynamic Memory Management and Storage 2.0 improve app startup speed and ensure consistent gaming performance during heavy use.
HyperConnect enables smooth interaction between devices within Xiaomi’s ecosystem, allowing users to transfer apps and data between devices, such as moving apps from a phone to a tablet.
Finally, HyperAI enhances the user experience with AI-powered features such as animated lock screens with depth effect and dynamic wallpapers. It also introduces real-time voice recognition, in-call transcription, and an AI-based summary tool.
Other AI features include the ability to convert sketches into detailed artwork on Xiaomi tablets and real-time bilingual translation, making communication between different languages easier.
HyperOS 2 even includes an AI-powered fraud detection system that can flag suspicious calls or videos.
As mentioned above, HyperOS 2 will roll out to Xiaomi’s flagships and other devices in November, with wider availability expected until early 2025.
The first update covers the Xiaomi 14 series, Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 and Redmi K70 series/Xiaomi 14T series, along with the Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro 12.4.
In December, the update will be extended to devices such as Xiaomi 13 series, Xiaomi Mix Fold 3, Redmi K60/Xiaomi 13T series and other models. More devices will receive the update in the first half of next year.
As of now, this update schedule is exclusive to devices in China. For UK and US users, as previously mentioned, Xiaomi has not yet announced a release timeline for the international version of HyperOS 2.
