Chicago police are asking the public to help identify a young girl found abandoned on the West Side Monday night.

The girl, believed to be 2 or 3 years old, was “abandoned” by a woman in the 4300 block of West Van Buren Street around 6:50 p.m., according to a Chicago Police bulletin. The woman fled to Van Buren in a black SUV after leaving the child behind, police said.

The woman was described as black and wearing a green sweater with a brown and black leopard print scarf.

The girl, about three feet tall and weighing 20 pounds, was found wearing a pink coat with maroon and yellow stripes, a pink Mickey Mouse sweater and pink Hello Kitty shoes. She was carrying a pink Adidas backpack containing diapers and an iPad in a pink case.

Anyone with information regarding the child’s identity is asked to contact Detective Arzate of the Area 4 Special Victims Unit at 312-746-8251. The case number is JK-216767.

CWBChicago was founded in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had become discouraged by the inaccurate information presented during local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has since expanded to Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown and other North Side areas.
