) Tiffany’s Secret Diary after“You are so beautiful … but your tattoos ruin you”.
The popular sexologist, writer, designer and content -maker spill her thoughts about the constant commentary on her skin art and said: “I don’t remember the first time a man told me that my tattoos made me ugly. What I remember, Is how it felt – like a stranger who reached through the screen and pulls my skin, tried to peel something that she didn’t get good. “
For Chan, tattoos are more than decoration; They are personal markers of triumph, loss and identity. Every piece of ink tells a story – from family, of resilience, of passions that walk deep. “Every tattoo I have represents a crucial moment in my life,” she explains. “Some mark the loss of loved ones, a way to always wear them with me. Others are symbols of my strength – pieces that I received after overcoming personal struggles, memories of the resilience that I have cultivated over the years. “
But despite the deeply personal meaning behind her tattoos, a vocal subset of men –Never women, Chan notes– Tell her consistently that she has ‘ruined’ herself. “It was not just that they criticized my tattoos; It was the right, the informal authority with which they spoke. As if my body should exist for their viewing pleasure, unchanged, unspoilt, pleasant for their specific flavors, “she writes.
In an era on social media in which access is widening unsolicited opinions, Chan evokes the deeper problem in Play: Control. “Social media give them access, a direct line to say things they would never have the daring to say to my face. But although my content is public, my permission to be Body-Shamed is not. “She draws a sharp connection between tattoo -shame and wider body shame, where the choices of women – from weight to make -up to clothing – are constantly being investigated under the male gaze.
Chan has long stopped entering into these comments in a way that gives them power, but that does not mean that she is silent. “I no longer let it influence, but I no longer let it be uncontrolled. I call it what it is – Body Shaming. I remind others that the body of a woman does not exist for public criticism. “
With this article, Chan knows her story, so that one thing is clearly clear: her tattoos are her and only from her. “To tell me that the men who feel forced to tell me that I would be more beautiful without my tattoos, I say this: your approval was never the goal. My body is not a canvas for your desires – it’s a canvas for mine. “
