CHICAGO – A 15-year-old boy was shot Friday afternoon in Hamlin Park on the city’s North Side, according to Chicago police. Two armed men, at least one of whom fired shots, remain at large.

The boy and other students were near the basketball courts at Hamlin Park, 3035 North Hoyne, when two armed men walked up around 2:19 p.m., according to information from a witness and a CPD statement. Both men drew their weapons and at least one of them shot the boy, hitting him in the back, police said.

CPD has not provided a motive for the shooting.

EMS took the boy to Lurie Children’s Hospital in serious condition.

One gunman who definitely fired, according to witnesses, was a Spanish man with tattoos on his arm. The other armed man was black, between 30 and 40 years old, of medium build and wearing a red sweater. According to an officer at the scene, they were last seen heading east on Wellington in a red SUV with dark tinted windows.

Technically, Hamlin Park is in the city’s North Center community area. Today’s victim is the first person shot in North Center since June 6 of last year.

CWBChicago was founded in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had become discouraged by the inaccurate information presented during local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has since expanded to Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown and other North Side areas.
