Chicago-one 16-time convicted burglar is back in prison this morning, accused of hiring two more companies less than 48 hours after they have come out of prison. In addition to his 16 burglary judgments, 58-year-old Vance Patton was also sent to prison for four other crimes.
Patton was released from the Graham Correctional Center in Hillsboro last Thursday 20 March, according to the state. At sunrise on Saturday, he had made the 227-Mile trip to Chicago, secured gloves and a face cover and committed two more burglaries near Beverly, according to public prosecutors.
The police said that video showed that Patton threw a brick through a window of the storage facility in the 1900 block of West 95th Street and took $ 1 out of the cash register. He then crossed the street and threw a brick through the windshield of Flippin Flavors, 1848 West 95th Street, and stable five soft drinks from the cooler, according to his arrest report.
Officers searched the area and found Patton after a nearby resident called 911 to report a suspicious man in their backyard. According to CPD, he had five cans of cold soft drinks in his backpack: two ginger beer, one pepsi and an orange crush. The police also recovered a black face cladding and gloves.
Complaints asked Judge Susana Ortiz to hold Patton, but she refused their petition. Instead, she said that Patton could go home on a single monitor to wait for the process for the new charges. But he will not be able to go home immediately. The state is moving to withdraw his conditional release so that he can go to prison for a while.
According to the court reports, Patton’s most recent burglary judgments were for breaking a Dunkin ‘and a SoulFood restaurant in Gresham in 2021. According to CPD Records, he was also conditional release at the time of those burglaries.
Patton was convicted of two counts of criminal damage in 2023, with a stolen vehicle in 1988 and a violation of bouncing bond in 1988.
His 16 other prison sentences were before burglaries in 2021, 2016, 2011, 2007, 2002, 1997, 1995 and 1988.
