Looks like someone took a wrong turn at Flavortown.
Two trucks loaded with 24,240 bottles Santo Tequila – the label co-owned by celebrity chef Guy Fieri and former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar – went missing last weekend after an apparent robbery in Laredo, Texas.
It took 39 months to make all that tequila, which was worth $1 million, reports say PEOPLE.comwho spoke to Fieri about the appropriated alcohol.
“We worked so hard,” Fieri said. “This is our best year we’ve ever had in Santo. We just had all this momentum, and now people are going to get everything that’s on the table.
The two trucks carrying 440 combined cases of Santo were hijacked on November 9 or 10, the Food Network star added.
He and his “Red Rocker” partner only learned about the Shanghai trucks on Thursday.
Fieri said it comes at a terrible time: the holidays are typically Santo’s busiest time.
Fieri said it’s possible “someone is trying to break the momentum” Santo has gained in the market.
Taking two trucks, and not just one, also gave the goatee chef a break.
‘I mean, one is one. But now you have to have double the number of people to pull off the double heist,” Fieri said. “It seems so much riskier to take two trucks.”
Laredo police, the Los Angeles Cargo Criminal Apprehension Team and a federal organization made the call CargoNet are investigating the incident, the outlet also reported.
Fieri has offered a $10,000 reward for information about the robbery.
“It’s like a movie,” he said. “I never in a million years thought this would come down the pike like this, but it is real.”
