Chicago man has been sentenced to 45-year prison for shooting at a pedestrian on the distant south side and then shooting two uniformed police officers who responded to a Scot-Spotter Warning caused by the original rifle fire.
Around 1:46 am on January 17, 2024, Antwan Dixon shot a man who went to a bus stop to go to work, said prosecutors.
The shots caused a shot spotter alert and sent the police officers from Chicago to the 13000 block of South Evans.
When two officers arrived in their marked team car, Dixon emerged from the back of a building and started shooting at them, according to a report completed by Copa, the office investigating by the police.
Bogels met the team of the officers and the agent in the passenger seat fired from the vehicle while her partner tried to get rid of the car, according to Copa’s report.
But the team car was disabled and the officers had to save. Dixon shot more shots on the officers while they tried to find coverage, Copa thought.
In the end, no shot wounds were reported. The police found Dixon, who had put a firearm in his waistband, with the help of a CPD surveillance camera operator at the Gresham police station (6th) district.
Public Prosecutors said that laboratory tests established that the gun in his waistband is the one who is used to shoot at the police officers and the man who goes to work.
Dixon, 27, has now found guilty of two counts of attempted murder. He has to sit 85% of the 45-year prison sentence pronounced by Judge Thomas Hennelly, giving him an expected conditional date of 11 April 2062.
Copa found both officers who fired shots during the incident worked reasonably well. A judge forbade the agency to release body camera video and other evidence, while Dixon’s criminal case was awaiting. These materials can be released in the coming weeks.
