Chicago-a man who received a 35-year prison sentence for murder in 1985 was sentenced on Friday to another 888 years in prison for killing his neighbor in the Lakeview YMCA in 2018.
George Field, 62, was found guilty of seven counts of murder and one count of home invasion during a banking process by Judge James Obish on January 29. On Friday, Obbish gave the field prison: 8 years for home invasion and 888 years for the murder attacks, with the penalties that meet.
Arthur Cannon, 83, died on January 12, 2018, ten days after the field had taken him in his room in the YMCA, 3333 North Marshfield, according to public prosecutors. The medical researcher of Cook County died that Cannon died of several injuries in an attack.
Prosecutors said Field held a “hand truck of Dolly” at the head of Cannon when the security staff of the building arrived on stage for the first time. Allegedly, Veld threatened to kill the cannon unless the security gave him cigarettes and a drink of water.
CPD responded and found field on the seriously injured cannon in the apartment on the fourth floor of the victim, according to the court reports.
Cannon was able to tell officers that he and Field had a heated fight before the field repeatedly hit him in the body with fists closed. The prosecutors said Cannon had broken ribs and facial fractures in the beating. His condition gradually deteriorated and he eventually succumbed to his injuries.
Veld was arrested shortly after the attack to face a load of crime battery. The prosecutors dropped that case after Cannon died and murder charges.
In 1985, Field was found guilty of four counts of murder, two counts of worsened battery and one counting of attempted murder in a banking process under the supervision of the now deceased Cook Cooky Judge Francis Mahon. Veld was sentenced to 35 years on the murder and worsened battery costs and 30 years on the attempted murder count, to be operated at the same time. He was released in 2006.
There were no further details available about the previous case.
In a sad coincidence, another man was killed on the fourth floor of the Lakeview YMCA in September 2023.
Officers found the 27-year-old victim deadly shot in the apartment of another resident with a gun nearby. But the man who lived in unity, 45-year-old Danny Berry, was no longer there. The medical investigator has established that death was a murder.
The day after the murder, CPD detectors heard that Berry’s phone in Ohio Pingte. They warned the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Troopers located Berry’s car that rode in a rural I-75 area. Even after the police had used stopsticks, Berry continued to accelerate and troopers eventually forced the vehicle to crash. It burst into flames.
Berry came with a gun from the burning vehicle and started walking on the highway, the police said. A Trooper then shot him down and he died later from those injuries.
