A crazy shooter who was fleeing a traffic stop on Staten Island, opened fire on a police cruiser, brutally shooting through his own windshield and hit the car, the police and sources said.
The two officers were not affected by the bullet of the fleeing devil, but they were taken to a nearby hospital for possible injuries with regard to crushed glass, according to the NYPD.
The incident started around 7.30 pm when officers stopped the Nissan SUV of the suspect for a traffic violation near 290 Port Richmond Ave. During the meeting, the suspect, 31, accelerated in an attempt to avoid the police.
But he soon came across another marked NYPD vehicle in the opposite direction on Port Richmond Avenue, the police said.
The shooter hit his Nissan in the police car and then opened the fire on the vehicle, hit it – but missed the officers.
According to the NYPD, the agents did not fired back.
The police said that the second NYPD vehicle was not part of a chase – the shooter happened to them shortly after he left.
The suspect, who is conditional for an attack in Manhattan, was arrested and the police found two weapons from the Nissan, said the sources of law enforcement.
He was taken to a nearby hospital, but was not seriously injured, added law enforcement sources.
The police have withheld the name of the suspect on Sunday evening pending charges.
