Skoda has unveiled the next generation Kodiaq RS hot SUV, ahead of an Australian launch around July 2025.

Based on the latest Kodiaq, which has moved to Volkswagen Group’s new MQB evo architecture with substantially updated technology, powertrains and design, the new Kodiaq RS benefits from a power boost and additional performance.

Power comes from a new 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, also found in the latest VW Golf GTI, Tiguan and Skoda Octavia RS, driving all four wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

With a power of 195 kW, it delivers a boost of 15 kW compared to its predecessor, while the torque has been increased by 30 Nm to 400 Nm. Skoda claims the new Kodiaq RS can sprint to 100 km/h from a standstill in 6.3 seconds (0.3 second faster than the old one) on its way to a top speed of 231 km/h.

Skoda has equipped its new flagship SUV with progressive steering and the latest DCC+ adaptive chassis technology, which offers a much wider spectrum of damper settings than the previous version.

There are also several modes available, each tuning the suspension settings, drivetrain and handling – including Eco, Comfort, Normal, Sport, Individual, Snow and a special Off-Road mode.

The exhaust note of the Kodiaq RS is complemented by a Dynamic Sound Boost function.

The new model is visually distinguished by typical gloss black RS exterior styling elements such as the illuminated grille frame, mirror caps, window frames and roof rails.

20-inch ‘Elias’ alloy wheels are fitted as standard and are exclusive to this model. Behind the large alloy wheels are red painted brake calipers.

Skoda will offer eight different exterior finishes for the new Kodiaq RS worldwide, including the new Bronx Gold Metallic.

Inside, you can choose from two new upholstery options: RS Suedia and the optional RS Suite.

Both interiors get sports front seats with integrated headrests and contrasting red stitching.

In the Suedia version, the seats are upholstered in a combination of artificial leather and Suedia suede, which can also be found on the dashboard and door panels.

The Suite comes with seats upholstered in natural leather, with this material also found on the dashboard and door panels.

In front of the driver of the RS is a three-spoke steering wheel with red stitching, steel pedals and a black headliner in the interior. The RS logo is also present everywhere, including on the touchscreen infotainment display.

Standard equipment includes a 10-inch virtual cockpit display and a 13-inch central touchscreen. Electric seat adjustment with heating and memory in the front will be standard, as will heated rear seats. Ventilation for the front seats is available with the RS Suite interior.

Other highlights include a Canton premium sound system, keyless entry and start, Matrix LED headlights and the aforementioned adaptive chassis technology.

The 2025 Skoda Kodiaq RS will follow the standard range in the Australian market, with a staggered launch with the core 150kW models arriving around February and the hi-po version around July.

Further Australian details such as pricing and specs will be confirmed closer to the new Kodiaq’s local arrival, but for reference, the previous generation line-up starts at just under $60,000 and tops out at $76,890 for the RS flagship.

AutoExpert expect the new range to likely be positioned around the same points as their respective predecessors, although there could be some minor price increases due to the improved powertrains and the potential for more substantial standard equipment lists.

The Skoda Kodiaq competes in the mainstream large SUV category under the VFACTS segmentation, meaning its main rivals include the Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento, as well as the Toyota Kluger and related Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace – which will be replaced by the all-new Tayron in 2025.
