Sweaty work of the police detectives from the Chicago police resulted in the arrest last week of a 12-way burglar who is suspected of breaking more than two dozen companies on the northern and northwestern sides of the city.
But although the 31-year-old Devon Lewery is currently for release for four of his 12 previous convictions, the Illinois Department of Corrections decided not to withdraw its conditional release after the police had arrested him for the new burglary charges last week, said a CPD report.
As if that wasn’t enough, Lower did not show up before his first judicial date on Friday, as a result of which a judge was asked to sign up in the event of the arrest warrant.
On February 5, detectives announced That they had linked a serial burglar to dozens of overnight pants and said that the Prowler glass windows and doors broke to gain access so that he could steal cash from registers.
Between January 16 and February 4, the police said, the burglar was broken into companies in Portage Park, Lincoln Park, Lakeview, Irving Park, Albany Park, Rogers Park, Edgewater, Uptown, Andersonville and Jefferson Park. They have released this video clip of the burglar in action.
It turned out that researchers cracked the case with a little old -fashioned police work. According to the Lattery’s arrest report, detectives learned that the burglar ordered a rideshare to leave the area after he had broken into Sam’s Chicken and Ribs on January 29, 1102 West Granville.
Through a search order they were able to identify the account that the burglar and his destination used that night: a motel in River North. The security system of the Motel registered images of the burglar when he entered the building after the burglary in Granville. And that visual material was clear enough for a Chicago police officer to identify Lower, according to the report.
Knowing that the burglar makes frequent journeys to the same North Motel River, the police outlined the company and arrested the Lewery when he arrived last week. According to his arrest records, Lewery had $ 2,000 cash, the equivalent of around $ 5,800 in foreign currencies and the driver’s license of a man of Ohio when the police custody him.
Public Prosecutors have accused the Lewery of six counts of burglary and four counts of theft of crimes. In addition to Sam’s chicken and ribs, they accused Lewery of infringement:

- Las Delicias de Michoacan, 6649 North Clark, on January 31
- Taqueria El Charro, 6661 North Clark, on January 31
- Cilantro Thai Kitchen, 1509 West Devon, on 2 February
- Lai Asian Grill, 6044 North Broadway, on 2 February
The Lattery arrest report says that CPD officers have contacted Idoc about the conditional status of Lower, but the State “will not give an order at the moment.”
Judge Antara Rivera released Lower last week with a curfew, in which he has to wear an ankle bracelet followed by the office of the main judge Timothy Evans. He was supposed to appear before his provisional hearing on Friday, but judicial information shows that he was not present and judge Anthony Calabrese signed an arrest warrant.
The Lewery was released on 11 June after less than half of a seven -year prison sentence he received for four 2021 burglaries, according to state reports. He also had six burglary judgments in 2012 and two more in 2014.
