In our more and more globalized society we have to thank technology for the unprecedented connectivity that we like, both in our ability to fly or sail practically everywhere as face-to-face video chats halfway through the world. It is easy to forget that the instructions of Turn-by-Turn that we use at our phones or locations that we tag on social media are all built on ancient analogue maps that have been used for centuries. And forget virtual credit cards – don’t forget good old -fashioned money?
For South African artist Faith XLVII (Earlier), cartography, money and national symbols provide the basis for current series such as The deconstruction of value And Chaos theory. She cuts old cards apart, stopped currency and flags and sews them together again in patterns with a pattern. More than a dozen of these pieces will also be shown later this month Heron Arts.

Faith XLVII’s Solo exhibition, Venarum Mundi– What “veins of the world” in Latin means – to the attention of the economic and geopolitical systems that structure our world, “says the gallery. Due to colorful, quilt -like pieces, the artist is interested in what our global reality shifts and forms, challenging notions of value, limits and history.
Venarum Mundi Open on 28 June and will continue until 2 August in San Francisco. Find more about Faith XLVIIs website And Instagram.
