Chicago – Federal Agents in Chicago interrupted nearly 162,000 counterfeit American postal services “Forever” stamps sent from China to the United States, officials said on Thursday.
American customs and border protection officers who worked at the Chicago International Mail Branch have seized eight shipments with a total of 161,860 fake stamps, the agency said. If the stamps were real, they would have a nominal value of $ 118,000.
According to the CBP statement, the agency has seen ‘a real increase’ in forged shipments, in particular around holidays – such as Valentine’s Day – when cards are often emailed.
“Although the print quality of the seized shipping costs was poor, the forged quality improves and the average consumer may not notice a difference with an authentic stamp,” the statement continued.
Customs agents inspect routine international shipments that arrive in the US to intercept narcotic drugs, weapons, cash, forged merchandise and forbidden agricultural products.
The agency has not announced arrests that are linked to the forged stamp processing.

CWBCHICAGO was founded in 2013 by five residents of Wigleyville and Boystown who had been discouraged with inaccurate information that was provided during meetings of the local community policing (CAPS). Our coverage area has since been expanded to cover Lincoln Park, River North, De Loop, Uptown and other North Side areas.
