Because I am not a medieval farmer, I like to start brushing the day through my teeth. And although my bathroom is full of electric toothbrushes from previous reviews (you can not Be surprised to hear that brands often do not want their higher, used models to return), my go-to brush is an oral b io. In particular the IO4.
But one day it would not hire.
I have tested many electric toothbrushes, and for my money – and tooth health can become quite pricey if you don’t take care of your teeth at home – the IO line has the best brushing performance there are. And I trust mine to prevent my dental hygienist from getting her narrower tools out when I’m in the chair.
In short, I need it.
I had my suspicions about the battery. I know a few people whose io -brushes mysteriously died, and I have read a number of similar complaints on social media platforms, but as we all know, social media filled are filled with bots and crazy people, so before panicking, I started replacing the charger.
With all the Alcity of a person who used to ran to the internet to solve all his problems – the environment and well -being of Amazon drivers damn a new online. But it happened that the charger was not the problem. It was the brush and therefore, very likely, the battery.
The next on-call port was the Oral-B website, but the official advice of the brand is in the style of “Is it actually connected?” And “Oh well, maybe the problem is your wall”.
But I struck gold with the /oralbt brush breddit. Different people with an IO6 or higher (with a battery percentage on the handle) noticed that their battery level decreased inexplicably from a load of 40 or 50% to zero.
Others discovered that their brush did not completely stop holding a load, or that it had refused to call in one day, as mine did. Fortunately, other Redditors had advice.
How to sort the battery problems of your oral-B
The first to be noted is that if the brush is within the warranty, you must return it and get a replacement. If you open the brush, this will make the warranty invalid and it can jeopardize the water resistance of the IO.
You may be able to get an extensive warranty if the brush no longer works just outside the warranty period, so that is also worth a shot.
But if not, you might as well try one of the following methods approved by Reddit to repair it. Before doing something, delete your toothbrush head and switch off the brush.
1. Clean the metal ring on the top of the brush handle
This simple solution is the first to try. It can work on all IO models.

2. Factory reset the brush
If your IO6 or higher does not hold a load, try this. You can find the option in the Settings menu on your brush.
3. Battery discharge and have it charged
Here is the following that you can try for brushes that don’t hold a load (again for an IO6 or higher). Remove the brush head, switch the brush and let it walk for about 20 minutes. Then recharge it again.
4. Remove and replace the battery
This should be a last resort, but my brush, the IO4, is a simple model without a screen. That means that there is no battery percentage indicator and more simple internal operation. So the only way to sort out the battery is to gain him physically access. This is what my brush has solved for me.
The base of the brush is sealed, but it shall screw loose. There are three notches on the base and if you have a brush that quickly charging, you will find three corresponding increased strips on the base of the charger in which you can fit and use to switch it separately.
If you have a brush with a traditional oral-B charger, put it on the base and turn it against the clock.

I couldn’t put that enough pressure because I used a flathead screwdriver and the base came loose.

When you remove the base, a spring stands out: don’t lose this.
You can then press the exposed head connector at the top and remove the operation of the brush. Again, do not lose the metal ring around the neck of the brush.

In my case I only had to remove the battery, wipe and replace the terminals. As soon as I put my brush back together, it started to charge as normal.
If you need to replace the battery, you can buy compatible rechargeable batteries from Amazon UK (a few costs £ 26.33 at the time of writing) or Amazon US (a single battery is $ 20.38).
