Hochman, a republican-on-independent, defeated the sitting progressive public prosecutor George Gascón with a margin of 20 points.
Gascón was considered by many voters to be soft for crime.
“I am at the border between La County and San Bernardino County, where criminals enjoyed crossing in the LA direction, thinking that little to no consequences would take place if they were stable, robbed and busy with criminal behavior,” Hochman shared in a video that was posted on his X account on Sunday.
“Times have changed! The pleasure has passed. A new DA has been chosen. And criminals in La County will now be continued and will be held fully responsible for their illegal actions,” he continued. “
Hochman, a former federal public prosecutor and a lifelong inhabitant of Los Angeles, conducted a campaign as a “hard middle” candidate, who rejects both mass detention and “failure of public safety” of the liberal policy of Gascón, of which Hochman said he led to increased misdemade and a lack of consequences for juvenile.
He also served as president of the Los Angeles City Ethics Commission and accused Gascón of “Catastrophic Incompetence” on the campaign track and promised to restore order and common sense.
While he was in office, Gascón survived two reception attempts while voters expressed concern about his policy.
He was also a co-author of the notorious Proposition 47, a measure approved by the voter that reduced the most thefts of crimes to crimes if the stolen amount would be less than $ 950 and some crime drug delicacies as a crime indicated.
Despite political differences between voters, public safety is a crossover issue, Hochman said.
“I spoke with ultra-left liberals, independent and conservative republicans. And it appears that, although they do not agree much, they agree that the public prosecutor prioritates their safety and policy that criminals will hold responsible for their actions in a smart and proportionate way,” he said.
