The Democratic mayor Michelle Wu van Boston takes warmth from local leaders for double the city laws of the liberal sanctuary and stand out: “We are standing with immigrants.”
Wu has previously stated that Boston will not collaborate with American immigration and customs enforcement operations – which she repeated on Wednesday evening during her State of the City speech.
“Nobody tells Boston how to take care of ours, no kings, and no presidents who think they are kings. Boston was born with bullies,” she said in her speech.
“You hear here,” she told immigrants.
Wu’s speech indignant conservative local leaders who oppose the shielding of illegal immigrants to ice and claim that they are endangering Bostonians.
Massachusetts Gop spokesman Logan Trupiano FOX NEWS told That “there is simply no justified reason for her to stand in the way of this critical progress.”
“Mayor Wu must go beyond anxiety and the wrong characterization of ice and federal authorities,” he said.
“The sanctuary policy of the city has led to the release of dangerous individuals back in our communities, in which the public undermines trust and safety,” Trupiano added.
Trupiano said that WU does not speak for the 650,000 inhabitants of Boston – and noted that an increase in arrests of illegal immigrants – predators of children and other criminals in the area.
“Ice has arrested child predators, drug dealers and arms walkers – people responsible for horrible crimes threatening public safety,” said Trupiano. “Given the recent arrests of ICE in Massachusetts and Boston, it is difficult to understand why Mayor Wu continues to resist the efforts of the Trump government.”
Former immigration court and Center for Immigration Studies Policy Expert Andrew Arthur told the outlet that WU’s policy is a risk for citizens and the safety of the migrant communities she has sworn to protect.
