A police officer out of service Chicago suffered a slight injury when he exchanged shots with autobrinkjes in West Lawn, according to preliminary information from the scene. No other injuries were reported immediately.

The officer saw four men in cars breaking and confronted them in the 3700 block of West 67th place around 4:15 am Initial Information indicates that the burglars were shot on the officer and he returned.

After the gunfire, the burglars fled to the west in a black vehicle that had left them.

CPD has not released a statement about the incident from 6.30 am.

CWBCHICAGO was founded in 2013 by five residents of Wigleyville and Boystown who had been discouraged with inaccurate information that was provided during meetings of the local community policing (CAPS). Our coverage area has since been expanded to cover Lincoln Park, River North, De Loop, Uptown and other North Side areas. But our mission remains unchanged: to provide original reporting of public safety with a better context and more detail than regular media. Our editorial e -mail address is news@cwbchicago.com
