CHICAGO – One man was dead and two others were injured after a shooting near the Howard CTA station in Rogers Park on Wednesday afternoon, according to Chicago police. The shooting occurred on a block that has been the scene of several shootings and shootings this year.
In a brief media statement, CPD said the three victims were standing on the sidewalk in the 1600 block of West Howard when someone began shooting at them from a passing car. However, surveillance video reviewed by CWBChicago shows three men were walking eastbound on Howard Street when they got into an argument with each other and fell to the ground.
One of them, a 29-year-old man, never got back up. He was pronounced dead at the scene. An 18-year-old man who was shot in the chest ran a short distance and collapsed near Gale Community Academy. CPD officers said they recovered a gun from him. According to the police statement, his condition was good.
A 20-year-old man arrived at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston in a private car. He was shot in the chest and was in critical condition.
In a Facebook post, Ald. Maria Hadden (49th) stated that the shooting did not affect CTA train traffic.
The victims are the 23rd, 24th and 25th people shot in Rogers Park this week. Six people have been shot in the area this month. The most recent shooting before Wednesday occurred Sunday evening at the Morse CTA station. That victim died.

CWBChicago was founded in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had become discouraged by the inaccurate information presented during local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has since expanded to Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown and other North Side areas. But our mission remains unchanged: to provide original public safety reporting with better context and more detail than mainstream media. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
