CHICAGO — A man on parole for shooting someone in 2016 is back in custody, accused of shooting someone else just months after getting out of prison.
Daniel Perez has an “extensive” criminal history, Judge William Fahy said as he ordered the 29-year-old arrested for being a risk to public safety. The state is also reviewing Perez’s parole.
Prosecutors say Perez shot a 33-year-old man in the face late Oct. 11 when they crossed paths at a liquor store in the 3900 block of North Narragansett.
Chicago police and officers from the Illinois Department of Corrections arrested Perez this week in the 5200 block of North Lieb on charges of attempted murder, armed habitual criminal and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.
State and courthouse records show he was released from prison in mid-March for a 2016 case in which he pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated battery by discharging a firearm.
In that case, Perez and another man were accused of shooting two men in the legs and trying to shoot a third person in the 4800 block of West Patterson in September 2016.
CWBChicago was founded in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had become discouraged by the inaccurate information presented during local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has since expanded to Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown and other North Side areas. But our mission remains unchanged: to provide original public safety reporting with better context and more detail than mainstream media. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
