STRANGE dots have appeared in Australia’s outback, sparking alien conspiracy theories.
The objects popped up on Google Maps and have sparked fierce debate about what they could be.
The dots and markings were found in Queensland, about 40 miles from the town of Longreach.
The explanations started with the mundane before others inevitably let their imaginations run wild and focused on UFOs.
The photo was first shared by a Reddit user, who said they found the markers while looking at Australia on Google maps.
“I found and saw these strange points and lines somewhere in the void when looking at the Google Maps satellite view,” they said.
Initially, the focus of the explanation was on the mining activities in the area.
“Mining site with blast layouts?” one user guessed.
“Slurry pits from exploration drilling rigs, and perhaps sludge pits over the dry lake bottoms,” another noted, referring to pits dug by miners.
Others soon started to apply a little creativity as they tried to guess what the white lines were.
“I think they are trees that were pushed up by a bulldozer and burned, leaving white piles of ash,” said one.
Some suspected they were bales or piles of cotton that could have been harvested nearby.
But the strange markings proved too tempting for some as they sought answers in alien life.
One Reddit user said that with “Area 51 being watched too closely” UFOs are “now parked here in Longreach because who goes there”.
The Area 51 facility in Nevada is the common name of a top secret U.S. Air Force facility within the Nevada Test and Training Range.
Conspiracy theorists believe it was used to store, research and reverse engineer crashed alien spacecraft, including material supposedly recovered during the Roswell crash of the 1950s.
It comes after an eagle-eyed mum spotted an alien hexagon pattern etched into a remote Australian coastal town.
Curious mum-of-two Vanessa Hammond shared the bizarre formation on social media after spotting it on Google Maps.
Her clip reveals a location somewhere above Cape Range National Park in Western Australia.
As she zooms in, an orange, hexagonal complex of intersecting lines appears near the coast.
The futuristic pattern seems to be chiseled into the desert landscape.
