The family of mentally disturbed driver who was accused of killing at least 11 people at a block party in Vancouver, tried to help only a few hours on Saturday before he was allegedly plowed by the crowd of festival-goers, a report unveiled the suspect as Kai-Ji Adam Lo.
Lo, a resident of Vancouver, whose brother was killed last year, has so far been confronted with eight charges of second-degree murder after his alleged rampage at the Lapu Lapu Day Festival-a celebration of the Filipino community Saturday evening, according to a report.
The 30-year-old was arrested on site by the authorities and was ‘known’ to the police and mental health care professionals Before he reportedly made his fatal attack, the police of Vancouver said.
The alleged murderer has a history of mental health problems and a family member even called a hospital neighborhood to seek help for LO just a few hours before the attack, Sources told the Vancouver Sun.
It is believed that he suffered from delusions and paranoia, although it is unclear which action was taken after the call had been made, the Canadian outlet reported.
Because of the mental illness, researchers believe that the destructive driving behavior was not terror -related, the police said earlier.
Last year Lo suffered Hartzeer when his 31-year-old brother, Alexander, was murdered on January 28, 2024, the publication also reported.
His body was found in a house in Vancouver and a 39-year-old man was arrested in that house and later hit with second-degree murder attacks, the Vancouver Sun reported. More details about the murder were not released by researchers.
“Our reality has been abruptly shifted. Despite our disagreement, the harsh truth affects that he is no longer with us with an overwhelming force,” Lo wrote after the death of his brother in a fundraising page that focuses on paying for funeral costs.
Lo wrote months later that his mother tried to take her own life in an update on the fundraising page.
In addition to the 11 people who were killed in the Saturday horror, dozens were still injured when Lo reported the busy party in Ramde. The youngest fatal victim was only 5 years old.
“The charges assessment is underway and further charges are expected,” said the police of Vancouver.
There were no interactions between the police and the alleged Perp “immediately prior to this event,” said Steve Rai, police chief of Vancouver, Sunday.
“This is the darkest day in the history of our city,” he added.
Lo has appeared in court and, according to the authorities, will remain in custody.

The chaotic scene unfolded around 8 p.m., just when the block party ended and the organizers took away barriers to block a street full of hundreds of festival visitors.
Allegedly, Lo used the opening and ran through the street in a black SUV, plowed through the crowd and sent helpless victims.
‘[He] I knocked down the pedal and rammed in hundreds of people, “Festival Geur Kris Pangilinan told CBC.
“It was as if I saw a bowling ball striking – all bowling pins and all the pens that fly in the air.”
