The sanctuary city of Denver, Colorado is asking its residents to house illegal aliens as shelters have become overcrowded due to the influx of foreign invaders.
Denver Mayor Mike Johnston (D) announced On Friday, the city announced that the city has begun scaling back its migrant services, including closing shelters, to reduce the current budget deficit in light of the 40,000 illegals who have come to Denver in the past year, bringing the city 180 million dollars.
“I want to thank every resident of the city who has shown up to cook a meal for someone who has arrived, who has welcomed someone into their home, who has offered them a job, who has said, ‘We will help you find your way. Johnston said at a recent press conference. “You’ve done your part. The city will do our part. The federal government has not done its part.”
“What is true now is that we are entering a different phase: without any federal support, without any work permits, without any policy changes, we will have to make changes in what we can do in terms of our city budget,” he added.
Some of the cuts include ending the extension of personal vehicle registration, cutting spending on landscaping and reducing hours at recreation centers, which all together will only reduce the budget by one-fortieth of what the influx of illegal immigrants will cost the city.
Shelters are being evacuated and 38,000 illegal immigrants will eventually be evicted from Denver’s 10 overcrowded government-run shelters as a result of the budget cuts.
In response to this, the city started asking residents to take in the ‘newcomers’.
“We’ve sent a message to all the landlords we have connections with,” Jon Ewing of Denver Human Services told Fox 31. “Basically, listen, we’re going to have some newcomers who need housing.”
“The hope and the goal is that we can connect the vast majority to housing, or at least as much as we possibly can,” Ewing said.
Ewing also said landlords should not charge aliens more than $2,000 per month.
“We have kind of a rent cap: $2,000,” he said.
Johnston claimed last month that his administration was considering closing Denver to more illegal aliens because resources were becoming overwhelmed, but it appears he has found a new “solution”: instead, put the burden squarely on Denver residents.
Democrats in other cities have made similar pleas and initiatives to deal with the massive influx of illegals in recent months caused by Joe Biden’s open borders policies.
A Chicago councilman urged wealthy residents in January to shelter illegal immigrants, and Maine has spent $3.5 million in taxpayer money to build “palace apartments” where migrants can live rent-free for two years.
