An MS-13 gang member who has been illegally present in the United States for nearly a decade was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after being released multiple times by various authorities despite a lengthy criminal record.
On February 6, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) deportation agents arrested the 23-year-old man from El Salvador at his home in Riverdale, Maryland.
The Salvadoran originally entered the US illegally at an unknown location on an unknown date as an “unaccompanied minor.”
On October 15, 2015, he was encountered by U.S. Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley Sector, where he was processed and transferred to the Office of Refugee Resettlement, which quickly “reunited” him with his mother in Hyattsville, Maryland.
Less than two years later, he was arrested in Montgomery County, Maryland, and charged with theft under $1,000.
ICE issued an immigration detention notice against the Salvadoran teen, but the Montgomery County Detention Center refused to honor the detainer and release the illegal alien the next day.
“Prince George’s County Police arrested him in May 2019 and charged him with third- and fourth-degree sex offenses, including sexual contact with a minor, and second-degree assault,” ICE explained in a press release.
“The Prince George’s County Circuit Court convicted him of assault in September 2022 and sentenced him to 10 years in prison. However, the court suspended the sentence for 72 days. The remaining charges have been dismissed.”
In June 2023, a Justice Department immigration judge ordered the known MS-13 gang member deported to his home country, but he remained at large for another eight months until his arrest in early February.
“This Salvadoran gang member has not only demonstrated disregard for U.S. immigration laws, but he has also proven himself to be a violent criminal and a threat to the people of Maryland,” said Darius Reeves, Director of the ICE ERO Baltimore Field Office.
“We will not allow such malicious offenders to intimidate the residents of our communities. ERO Baltimore will continue to prioritize the safety of our public and eliminating unlawful threats to our neighborhoods.”
Authorities continue to arrest dangerous foreign criminals who are illegally present in the US
Earlier this month, a Honduran gang member with a lengthy criminal record and six previous deportations was caught illegally crossing the Canadian border into Vermont.
Days earlier, ICE arrested a previously deported child molester in Massachusetts who had returned illegally to the U.S. about a decade ago and was convicted of a new sex crime in 2015.
Last month, Texas Troopers arrested a human smuggler wanted for murder in Mexico.
Also in January, an illegal alien from Brazil who was released to the US under Joe Biden was deported on suspicion of rape in his home country.
